I didn’t just visit Australia. I lived the whole thing.

A conversation-first lesson built from Yasmim’s real Australia stories: coming back home, living like a local, dog culture, coffee culture, wedding backstage, and stepping out of her comfort zone.

🎧 fast listening 🗣️ shadowing ✨ natural chunks 🔁 recycling ✍️ tiny final record
Teacher goal: Do not try to “finish the worksheet.” Use it as a guided conversation tool. Main focus: past storytelling, existential there is / there are, feelings, cultural comparison, and smoother rhythm with fewer fillers.

Let me show you how this works

Use this first because she said she didn’t understand the interactive worksheet.

5–7 min
Teacher says:
Yas, last class you told me you didn’t really understand how the interactive activity works, so today I want to do it with you first. It’s not a test. It’s just a way to listen, repeat, choose useful phrases and then speak again, but better.

🎧 Listen

Click Natural, Fast or Challenge. Don’t try to understand every word.

🗣️ Repeat

Use the phrases as models. The goal is rhythm, not perfection.

✨ Speak again

Use 4–5 chunks to tell your real story more naturally.

Quick audio demoSpeaker 1 · American English

Today, we are going to use your real Australia stories. Not a random topic. Your trip, your memories, your English.

2 · Opening conversation

What stayed with you?

Let her talk first. Collect language, but don’t correct yet.

6–8 min
Listen for: I’m feel, have for existence, past/simple present mix, and repeated you know / I think. Write 4–6 ideas in her own words for the Correction Lab.
3 · Fast listening

After a big trip

Fast but clear. First listen for meaning, second listen for phrases.

10 min
Listening 1 · MonologueTry Fast first

Before listening: Don’t try to understand every word. Listen for the main feeling.

Coming back from a big trip can feel strange. You go away, live a completely different routine, meet new people, see new places, and then suddenly you are back home. Everything around you looks the same, but something inside you feels different. You start thinking, “Why can’t I live with the same energy here?” When you travel, you plan your days, you say yes to new experiences, you walk more, you notice small things, and you feel more alive. Then, when you come back, your normal routine can feel heavy for a while. It doesn’t mean you hate your life. It just means the trip gave you a different perspective.

Gist question

What is the main idea?

Best answer: B. The trip gave the person a different perspective.

Phrase-catching

Speak now: Choose one sentence and complete it about your real trip.
I felt like I was living a completely different routine. Something inside me felt different when I came back. The trip gave me a different perspective.
4 · Lexical noticing

Useful phrases from your own stories

Choose 5 phrases. Then complete them orally with real details.

7–8 min
This is the core Lexical Approach moment: give her ready-made chunks so she doesn’t translate every idea from Portuguese. Ask her to choose, not memorize. For Yasmim, this section should feel like “phrases to help you tell your story,” not vocabulary study.
Selected chunks will appear here.
5 · Correction lab

Your ideas, upgraded

Click “Show upgrade” one at a time. Don’t show everything at once.

10–12 min
Teacher says:
I chose some of your ideas because they are really good ideas. Let’s make them sound more natural in English.

Fast oral drill: Teacher says the idea in Portuguese; Yasmim says the upgraded sentence in English. Do 6 only, not all 10.
6 · Model listening

How to organize the wedding backstage story

This is a fluent model, not a comprehension test. It shows Yasmim how to turn her own story into a tighter, more natural narrative.

8–10 min
This section was changed from a two-speaker dialogue to a one-speaker model because the browser TTS created long pauses when switching voices. A monologue sounds smoother and makes the pedagogical goal clearer: she already knows the story, so the task is to notice structure, rhythm and reusable chunks.
Listening 2 · Model monologueSpeaker 1 · American English

Before listening: You already know the story. This time, listen for how the speaker organizes it: scene → details → funny problem → reflection.

I didn’t just attend my friend’s wedding in Australia. I lived through the whole process. During the week before the ceremony, I helped with the decoration, the dogs, the schedule, the vows, and even some last-minute problems. Some moments were beautiful, some were stressful, and some were honestly hilarious. Two days before the wedding, there was a spray tan disaster, and I couldn’t stop laughing. But looking back, that is exactly what made the experience so special. I wasn’t just a guest. I was part of the story.

Listen for the structure

Number the parts in the order you hear them.

  1. Reflection: why the experience was special.
  2. Scene: she didn’t just attend the wedding.
  3. Details: decoration, dogs, schedule, vows.
  4. Problem: the spray tan disaster.
Correct order: 2 → 3 → 4 → 1.

Steal the chunks

Speak now: Tell the same idea in your words using only 3 chunks: I didn’t just... I lived through... Looking back...
7 · Challenge listening

Living like a local vs being a tourist

This one adds new language and a deeper idea, so it works as a real B1+/B2-low listening challenge.

8–10 min
This listening is intentionally not a copy of what she said. It takes her theme — “I didn’t just visit, I lived the routine” — and adds a more mature reflection. Use it as the real listening challenge after the model monologue.
Listening 3 · Real challengeSpeaker 2 · British English

Before listening: Don’t try to catch every word. Listen for the argument: why can living like a local be deeper than tourism?

When you stay with someone abroad, you don’t only see the postcard version of the country. You see the routines, the small problems, the cultural rules, and the way people organize everyday life. You notice how they take care of pets, plan weddings, use public spaces, talk about politics, and deal with services. That kind of experience can be more tiring than tourism, because you are not just visiting beautiful places. You are watching how a society works from the inside. But it can also be more meaningful. You stop comparing only beaches, coffee shops, and buildings, and you start comparing ways of living. Sometimes that is what changes you the most.

Main idea

Choose the best summary.

Best answer: staying with locals gives you a deeper view of routines, problems, rules and ways of living.

Mini opinion challenge

Answer quickly, then say it again with fewer fillers.

  • Is it better to travel like a tourist or live like a local for a few weeks?
  • What did you understand about Australia that a tourist probably wouldn’t?
  • What changed more: your English, your confidence, or your perspective?
8 · Pronunciation & connected speech

Say it smoother, then faster

Listen → repeat → shadow. Use fast only after she has rhythm.

6–8 min
